Basada en hechos reales, sigue la historia del reconocido periodista Tom Junod y su amistad con el icono de la cultura pop americana Fred Rogers. Todo empezó cuando un escéptico Junod aceptó escribir un artículo sobre Rogers. A raíz de esto comienzan a conocerse de cerca y cambiará la idea preconcebida que tenía sobre él. En esta historia la amabilidad supera al cinismo, y está marcada por la empatía, y la decencia del vecino más querido de Estados Unidos.
